About The Earful Club

Guests from across the creative world present tracks linked to a theme
and discuss related aspects of their life and work with host Pascal Gabriel,
in a relaxed, ‘back to mine’ listening-club format

For many years, Stubbleman (AKA maverick producer and composer Pascal Gabriel) organised The Earful Club: an informal event where an eclectic selection of music lovers was invited each to choose, share and discuss a track relating to a common theme.

With the constraints of COVID, the sessions had to end, so he decided to create a new radio show / podcast based along the same lines.

Format

  • Pascal introduces the theme of the show and plays tracks which relate to it.
  • In a series of short interviews, each guest introduces the track they have chosen and talks candidly about the impact of the theme on their lives and work, before the track is played.
  • Following the interviews, Pascal winds down with reflections on what has been discussed and a final track to close the show.

The relaxed peer to peer interview ‘between friends’ format provides listeners with a rare insight into the creative processes, musical tastes, sources of inspiration and shared passions of musicians, artists and other creatives.

Pascal’s charming and disarming approach gives guests the space to express themselves openly and he communicates to the listener his deep passion for music and its unique power to influence the human condition.

The timing of the show can be tailored according to programming schedules.

Episode 1 – Solitude

For the first episode, Pascal has invited three fellow musicians, although future episodes will include a diverse and inclusive selection of guests from across the creative world and will also be open to suggestions from listeners.

Three guests were invited to choose a track evoking the feeling of solitude, a track composed in solitude, or simply a track that represents a lonely time in the contributor’s life.

The Guests:
Gareth Jones, producer and composer
Laura Cannell, performer and composer
Mark Moore, DJ and musician

and some extra tracks were suggested by
Dot Allison
Simon FIsher Turner
Jay M Richardson
